Presence in VR can be achieved by dividing the concept into two factors: Visuals alone, like words (data, information), do not result in presence. Unlike reading, presence in VR does not depend on words to paint a visual picture. However, it does not happen by simply displaying data, or information, in a headset. Presence is what can make VR an immersive experience. So what separates an immersive reading experience from reading while simply comprehending information? In one word, presence.ĭuring an immersive reading experience your physical presence does not change but, your metal presence may change entirely. Information can be read, and understood, without immersion. The words we read are not, in themselves, an experience. Reading is an immersive experience when we are transported. Getting lost in pictures painted by words can open gateways to travel.
